Tuvalu is back from 12-10-2009
The delegation of Tuvalu was awarded with a loud applause as it came back to the negotiations, one day after calling for suspension of the conference.
Tuvalu still insists on legally binding agreement in Copenhagen, one which would build up from Kyoto, instead of political frame or an agreement being pushed by the developed countries. The Alliance of Small Island States, as well as many African countries support this idea too.
The problem is that if the current pledges from the developed countries remain as such, instead of 350 ppm CO2 eq (crucial for keeping the global warming up to 2°С), we would end up with 650 ppm CO2 eq. With concentrations like this the consequences would be disastrous and beyond our ability to manage them. |
